Best Practices: From legal advice to winter checklists, PACE offers big benefits

PACE membership entitles you to a variety of important benefits to help you avoid property and personal damage, make sound employment decisions and more. Here are some highlights of what your PACE membership can do for you.

Your PACE membership qualifies you for up to $1,000 in free legal consultation before you decide to discipline or terminate an employee. For more information, contact Lisa Freiley, lfreiley@osba.org,  503.588.2800, 800.578.6722.

PACE offers to its members a free online course in sample modification language for American Institute of Architects model construction contracts.

Winterization tips

As temperatures fall and rise this winter, personnel should inspect facilities regularly for broken or leaking pipes—especially on weekends, holidays and vacations when buildings are unoccupied. PACE offers its members checklists of items to inspect before and during winter, including a seven-point list for boilers and a six-point list for sprinklers. For a free copy, contact Scott Neufeld, sneufeld@sdao.com, 503.371.8667 or 800.285.5461.

Preventing injuries

Facilities personnel also will want to do all they can to prevent slip and falls and other personal injuries on property. Conduct regular inspections and document whether or not deficiencies are found. If you find hazards, be sure to fence or otherwise block access until repairs can be made. Install simple warning signs that are easy to read and understand. And, of course, correct the condition as soon as possible. For more about preventing personal injury, contact Scott Neufeld, sneufeld@sdao.com, 503.371.8667 or 800.285.5461.

Help with personnel screenings

Did you know your PACE membership entitles you to five free employee drug and alcohol and five free criminal background checks a year? For more information, contact Melissa High, sdao@sdao.com, 503.371.8667, 800.285.5461.
