Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is just around the corner. Every April SAAM calls attention to the pervasive societal problem of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault. SAAM strives to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate different communities on how to prevent it. SAAM 2024’s theme is “Building Connected Communities." Assisting in diminishing the risk of sexual abuse, assault, and harassment within our communities is crucial. Every gathering space, be it in neighborhoods, workplaces, campuses, organizations, or online platforms, constitutes a community. Despite occasional feelings of detachment, we are all integral members of one or multiple communities.

The 2024 DMTD Student Video Contest is now Open!
The Districts Make the Difference (DMTD) Student Video Scholarship Contest has launched its third annual national competition for high school students.
The annual contest is a pillar of NSDC’s ongoing efforts to expand public awareness of essential services that more than 35,000 special districts provide in their communities across the country. During the first quarter of the year, high school students are invited to produce a creative, original, 60-second video highlighting special districts services.
Videos submitted through March 30 are reviewed and narrowed to 10 finalists based on stated criteria. The finalists’ videos are available online through DMTD and NSDC media for a national public vote for the winning videos.
The top scholarship is $2,000, with additional scholarships for second and third place. Each winning entry also is accompanied with a $500 “scholarship” for their teacher of choice as to further encourage sharing of the scholarship opportunity and expand the next generation’s knowledge of special districts.
Special districts across the county are encouraged to share the contest opportunity in their outreach to their communities, high schools, and community civic organizations, as well as on their social media feeds, in newsletters and on websites using the images provided.
