Sexual assault and abuse are a traumatic experience that can affect individuals regardless of their age, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Both men and boys who have endured sexual violence may share similar emotional responses with other survivors, yet they may encounter extra hurdles due to societal attitudes and stereotypes surrounding masculinity. Societal expectations and preconceptions about traditional male behavior may contribute to additional difficulties in acknowledging, expressing, and seeking support for experiences of sexual violence.

The perpetuation of these stereotypes can intensify the emotional and psychological repercussions and obstacles that hinder men and boys from openly confronting and overcoming the aftermath of sexual abuse. They don't need to endure their pain in isolation, as there are dedicated resources designed specifically for boys and men.

Resources for Male Survivors:

Have you checked out the PACE website lately? We have two new resource pages that are one-stop shops for all things:

The 2024 DMTD Student Video Contest is now Open!

The Districts Make the Difference (DMTD) Student Video Scholarship Contest has launched its third annual national competition for high school students.

The annual contest is a pillar of NSDC’s ongoing efforts to expand public awareness of essential services that more than 35,000 special districts provide in their communities across the country. During the first quarter of the year, high school students are invited to produce a creative, original, 60-second video highlighting special districts services.

Videos submitted through March 30 are reviewed and narrowed to 10 finalists based on stated criteria. The finalists’ videos are available online through DMTD and NSDC media for a national public vote for the winning videos.

The top scholarship is $2,000, with additional scholarships for second and third place. Each winning entry also is accompanied with a $500 “scholarship” for their teacher of choice as to further encourage sharing of the scholarship opportunity and expand the next generation’s knowledge of special districts.

Special districts across the county are encouraged to share the contest opportunity in their outreach to their communities, high schools, and community civic organizations, as well as on their social media feeds, in newsletters and on websites using the images provided.
